The effect of surface treatment of implants on removal torque in rabbit tibia

Abstract
The object of this study was to estimate the effect of the surface treatment of implant on degree of osseointegration.
30 grade-11 titanium implants were used in this study. Surfac. Implants were devided in 3 groups and treated in different method. 10 implants were sandblasted with aluminium oxide and used as experimental group 1. 10 implants were treated with acid(HN03, HF, H20) and used as experimental group 2. Another 10 implants were used to control group with no surface treatment.
10 isogenic rabbits were used in this experiment. Average body weight was 3.12Kg. Each 10 implants was inserted on the tibial metaphysis.
After 6 weeks, animals were sacrificed and removal torques were measured with Tolmichi 15 BTG-N Torque Gauge Manometer.

The results were as follows

1. The removal torques was higher in experimental group 1 than control group. There was a statistically significant difference between the removal torques of control and experimental group 1.
2. There was no statistically significant difference between the removal torques of the control group and experimental group 2.
